Tips for Cooking The Perfect Truffle Wagyu Burger With Cheese
How To Easily Caramelize Onions
Caramelizing onions can take a long time. From the cooking class, we learned the trick of adding a little vinegar to speed up the process.
You want to first start by cooking the onions on medium heat with butter.
After they start browning, add little Apple Cider Vinegar with honey or you can also use Red Wine Vinegar.
After cooking a little longer, the onions will turn to a deep golden color.
How To Make The Perfect Wagyu Burger Patties
Take your wagyu ground beef out of the package. Divide the beef up into the number of wagyu burger patties you want to make.
For this wagyu burger recipe, we used 1 pound of ground wagyu beef to make two burger patties.
Once you have divided the wagyu burger patties up, place one patty in your hands. Using your hands, create a ball shape and then flatten it out gently.
Make the wagyu beef burgers at least about 20% wider than the burger buns as meat tends to shrink when cooked.
For the perfect height, make sure each patty is stacked up one knuckle high, about 1 inch or 2 centimeters.
Don't forget to season and flavor the ground meat patties before cooking. We recommend keeping it simple with truffle salt and pepper.
How to Cook Wagyu Burger
Unlike other cuts of ground beef, our instructor recommended cooking the wagyu beef burgers medium rare.
The suggested cooking time for the wagyu burgers is about 1 minute 30 seconds for each side until brown.
Once medium rare burgers have browned, remove from the cast iron skillet and top with cheese and then cook in the broiler for an additional two minutes.
In the online class, we topped our burgers with Cowgirl creamery and truffle cheese mix.
Substitute For Truffle Toppings
We love the taste of truffles for the aroma and flavors they add to dishes. Just a little truffle flavor can add a touch of refinement to simple foods.
That said, truffles can be polarizing and not loved by all. If you are someone who doesn't like truffles, simply replace the truffle condiments in this wagyu recipe.
Instead of truffle bbq sauce, use your preferred sauce for grilled meats. And similarly, instead of truffle flavored salt, simply season the wagyu burgers using regular salt and pepper.
Best Cheese for Wagyu Burger
The cheese makes a huge difference when making a homemade burger. For this wagyu burger recipe, we recommend using a soft and creamy cheese. In our online wagyu burger class, we used a delicious creamy cheese with truffles.
If you don't like truffles, we highly recommend a soft brie Saint Andre triple cheese.
American Wagyu Burger – Step by Step Instructions
Caramelizing the Onions
Caramelized onions add so much depth to this beef wagyu recipe. Start by chopping up your onion and placing in a buttered saute pan over medium heat.
Stir the onions occasionally as they start to brown. Once the sautéed onions are to your liking, add a little vinegar, stir and remove from heat.
Buttery Toasted Buns
For a crispy bun on your ultimate burger, lightly toast the buns with butter. Split the buns in half and butter each side.
Place the brioche buns on a skillet over medium heat. Move the buns around and keep checking to see how they brown.
Once the buns reach your desired doneness, remove immediately to avoid them burning.
Broiling Toppings of Wagyu Burgers
Broiling the toppings of the wagyu burger was the favorite tip we learned. Make sure you have your oven turned up to broil.
Top your wagyu burgers with your favorite toppings. This is especially helpful to melt the cheese.
What To Eat With Your American Wagyu Burger
These American wagyu juicy burgers are delicious and can be quite substantive with all the toppings.
Enjoy your wagyu burger with truffle popcorn as we did in our cooking class. Otherwise, you can accompany it with a side salad or homemade sweet potato fries.
Keep the sides simple so that you can maximize the pleasure of fully appreciating the richly marbled wagyu beef.
